This is the point in the day I started to question my decision to go the same day the protest was happening
Me at 52 years old, my birthday. Hanna got up with me to see me off, guess she knew better than to do this sort of thing.
This is my complete everything for the day. Camera, two lenses, batteries and so forth. It small enough that I can go through Secret Service checkpoints as they limit the size of bags you can carry in. The zippered bag on the left has a change of clothes and such.
I got here late with DC traffic, after the protest started moving down the street. As a result, I got people's backs which isn't the look you want to capture on a protest.
I'm a big bald white dude jogging to the front of the protest, see picture 2. I'm sure I looked like a cop of some kind, so got a lot of looks. This is me firing the camera from my hip

This was a well organized and permited protest. Police were there to shut down the streets for the organization. I believe they have others planned in the future.
White house if off camera right, was secured with very talln fencing for the Army 250 parade.

I learned I should go up the day before instead of trying to make it the same day. Doing news coverage isn't the same as doing regular business.
